OK, I agree, as soon as X11 is -up- it is a video driver problem of some sort. If I was able to ssh into the 8.04 live cd, I could read out the config it has setup automagically there and see what's wrong. SSH into it via one of my SuSE and windose/putty boxes failes as connection is refused, although i specified ssh on grub boot options. So how can I do that?

As above: not possible to get ssh connection. so how can I 'net' into the live cd booted box? > initrd has nothing to do with X11 and the video > driver. initrd reads > and uncompresses the kernel file > and starts it, but has nothing to do with other > drivers. Please consider that I wold love to actually *install* the 8.04 system, if ever possible in textmode since when initrd is read the screen goes black and I see nothing anymore. I had a 8.04 install done on another box and moved the hd to my f69000 problem box. When this transplanted install boots on the f69000 problembox, it gets to initrd and then the screen goes black, no garble X11 or whatsoever. I will try this agian though and copy the X11 settings from the 6.06 install to the transplanted 8.04 install. I'llm be back ... :-) > You probably > will have no true "debug messages" > as your symptoms of something moving on the screen when you > move the > mouse indicate X11 is > running and THINKS it has produced a proper display. can't I get all the bootmessages copied to the serial port somehow? greets chris __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
