I am very happy with it.
The encoder support in EMC is very good, however the pause leaves a lot to be desired compared to Mach. It's not possible to Jog during a feed hold or pause in a program to zero a tool or clear swarf. Jogging during a toolchange pause is something I do all the time in Mill, particularly to change a tool and then down to re-zero on the top of the work. As both my router and Mill use collets, it's hard to use tool tables, as the tool length changes every time you change one, and particularly so with short or small tools where you can't push them up to a fixed stop in the holder. Turn isn't as bad, as I use a changer and tooltables, but it's still impossible to simply pause, jog, clear swarf and resume. There is a feed hold in EMC - but that's all it does and it's pretty worthless without the ability to jog to change an insert and re zero or to clear swarf. BTW - You can resume in Mach without loosing position. The jogging issue is a show stopper for me and the main reason I, and I suspect quite a few others, don't use EMC. The telling answer I got on this from Jeff Epler was >>There's no way for a running program to switch out of >>"auto" into "manual" temporarily. It would take a substantial amount of >>coding to change this. I suspect nobody is prepared to take this on, there was a big discussion back in September, with several people supporting the request for this feature, but the tracker for jogging raised back in march - #1926697 - is still at level 1 and still assigned to nobody!
