I would second Ray on .deb files. Another thing to consider is that since EMC2 is primarily supported on Ubuntu, and I would guess EMC2 users would be your main linux customers, it might may the most sense to primarily target the same platform. A plus is that the ubuntu .deb should install fine on Debian, and with Alien you can convert to .rpm - although I don't know how well that works. I've successfully converted many .rpm packages to .deb with it though. Just my .002 cents.
