The moderators of this list have kindly allowed me to announce the
release of SheetCam for Linux. SheetCam is a general purpose 3.1/2D CAM
package. It was originally aimed towards routing and plasma cutting but
has now evolved into a competent milling package as well. This release
is part of a ground-up rewrite of the original Windows only SheetCam and
is still in beta so you can expect some bugs and missing features. This
release of course comes with a post processor for EMC - just go to
Options->Machine options and pick EMC from the list.

While it is in beta development it is free to use. The only restriction
is that each release will cease to function after about 30 days. If you
keep downloading the latest releases you will have a fully working free
CAM package. Once the beta development is finished, you will have to buy
a license to keep using it. I will try to keep the price as reasonable
as possible.

As I cannot afford to support packages for every Linux distro, I am
using Autopackage which should install on most reasonably up to date
distros. I have tested it on the EMC Ubuntu 8.04 and it works fine as
long as you have it installed on your hard drive. It will not work
directly from a live CD. On 6.06 there are a few issues with the
graphical installer and it does not set up menu shortcuts. I am working
on solutions to these problems.

You can download it from <http://www.sheetcam.com/downloads.shtml>. If
you have any probelms, let me know and I will do my best to sort them out.
