Hi Amund,

 

Yes, load up to worst case and then measure after 3 seconds for worst case
LOAD fault (6.2.2.2) and SOURCE fault (6.2.2.3)

 

Load fault is simple. We do this with an electronic load with a
progressively stepped constant current load. 5 second dwell time and keep
going until power supply turns off or we classify as PS3.

 

Source fault is harder. What are the failure modes of your source? Can you
imagine a fault that increases the capability of the source to output more
power? This is usually a failure of regulation in the source that causes
increased voltage.

Hi Amund,

 

This is my understanding. Level 1 energy sources = no safeguards required.

 

I would always be prepared to review after single fault testing. We've never
managed flames with a PS1 source but have melted cable insulation and
battery holders.
