Steve, I recommend that you include this concern in your Risk Assessment to determine whether the LED color is critical to safety or not. You can then record your level of risk and compare it to your risk tolerance. Include all possible failure modes, such as LED failure, incorrect polarity, driver failure, errors in programmable devices (logic) responsible for displaying the correct indicator color, and so on.
