which is what I have: (add-to-list 'load-path "~/git/org-mode/lisp") (add-to-list 'load-path "~/git/org-mode/contrib/lisp/") (require 'org) Maybe you have something earlier in your initialisation that brings in the old version? Have you done "make" in your ~/git/org-mode directory?
