[O] fill-paragraph (M-q) not working as expected

Hi!

Having

..
       - [ ] whatever
         a long line ...
       - [ ] whatever
..

and point in line "a long line" M-q does not fill the line/paragraph.
How can I get a "fill" (which works after changing to text-mode)?
