Thanks for bringing this up. I've explored some answers to this, but haven't 
settled on anything. I really like being able to focus on one task and have my 
desktop environment support that as well.

Have you experimented with this? There are Growl settings that allow you to 
keep a Growl notification up until dismissed,

I don't know how to display information in the menu bar. That's beyond my 
skills. But my answer, which might work well with a separate Space, is to use 
Geektool to display the currently clocked-in task on the desktop.
