I faced this, too. A fix/workaround is to adjust the loadpath to: (add-to-list 'load-path (expand-file-name "~/build/org-mode")) After quick browsing through the logs I found nothing that could have caused this, but my guess is that someone adjusted the autoloads from "file.el" to "lisp/file.el".
