[...] Interesting you mention this because I use the precursor to EDB, forms, to keep track of books. The reason this is interesting is that it works well with org-mode. In forms, and in EDB, you can specify the character to use to separate fields in the database. If you specify '|', you can use org-mode's table editor to work with the database directly.
