Hello Aaron, Thank you very much for this detailed bug report. Specifically calling out the function `org-update-parent-todo-statistics' saved me some time! As we can see from the docstring of `org-complex-heading-regexp', we are supposed to bind `case-fold-search' to nil when using it. We don't do that in this function!
