I just tried to package-install org-9.7.7 and I'm getting a problem with org-assert-version. It looks like a conflict between the system installed version of 9.5.5 and my ~/.emacs.d/elpa install of 9.7.7. The main problem (so far) seems to be org-assert-version -- even Hyperbole seems to be complaining that it is missing!
For those that have been watching, I had a setup of Org v9.5.5 as part of Debian bookworm's Emacs 28.2. All my Org files were publishing properly (AFAICS), so I decided to upgrade to Org 9.7.6 in my ~/.emacs.d, but had problems that seemed to be conflicts with 9.5.5. I hand hid the system Org to see if I could get around the problem, but I'm not sure I completely hid (it was still referenced in package--builtins). Org 9.7.6 was giving me other problems after that (main one seemed to be pdflatex [I think] giving an error about ox-latex not producing a good tex file). I dropped Org 9.7.6 and unhid 9.5.5. All my Org published fine again. Then I noticed Org 9.7.7 was out and thought I'd give it a try. See paragraph 1. I'll probably drop 9.7.7 for now. -- David Masterson
