Hi David, no, there is not. You can always press "." in the agenda, that will get you to "today" and position the cursor at that day.

Another possibility is to customize the variable org-agenda-time-grid with M-x customize-variable RET org-agenda-time-grid and to turn of the "show grid in single day agenda" and "show grid only if any timed..." boxes. Then "today" will always stick out by showing the time grid.
