Hi Peter, looks great!
I can see why you do it the way you do, you are showing your work flow, and not the details of the setup. And I can see why you want to keep the details out, I actually do think it makes the article better.
Still, I believe that some people will be interested in more details of your setup. So why not making an appendix to the document that shows at least the column view format you are using and some more technical details. Would be a good compromise....
