I also think the sync det works great. My VFO locks 4 or 5 Hz high using the 13 KHz filter. The 2.7 KHz filter locks right on the money. Switching to the narrower filter will also lock signals that are too weak to lock on the wide filter. Not that you'd want to use the 2.7 filter for listening to AM broadcasts.
