Hi Fred.  I have the identical setup working just fine.  I think you are almost 
there.  Probably what you missed is setting the "line-in" level.  It's separate 
from the mic level.  To do this, you have to select the MENU item "MIC SEL" and 
change it (with VFO A) to "Line In".  Otherwise, the Mic gain control adjusts 
(separately, of course) the gain for the rear panel (if you have "rph" 
selected) or front panel (if you have "fph" selected) mic inputs.
 
After selecting "line-in", adjust the line in level to get the ALC deflection 
you want using the Mic gain control.  You can do this all off-air by using 
"Test" mode.    After you have the line-in level OK for your N1MM/computer 
output, switch the MIC SEL back to "fph" or "rph" depending on where you want 
your "live" mic to go.  The mic gain control can then be used to match the 
"live" mic level with the recorded level.  Yep, it's way too complicated, 
but...  Please let us know if that fixes your problem.
