Hi Paul, I've found that putting some flux on the solderwick braid helps tremendously in drawing out the solder on the pads and in the holes without overheating them.
I take a new roll of solderwick, pull out about 2 feet of braid, and apply liquid soldering flux to it and let it soak in overnight.
