Don - On the K3 you can enable and disable the mic bias to pin 1 from the menu, so it will work both with our microphones and any other dynamic mic.

Also we have added more microphone input gain (adjustable) so operation with the Heil HC4/5 mic's will be no problem.

Barry,

I believe the K3 comes permanently wired for the Elecraft microphones, and that means there is a resistor between 5 volts and pin 1 (AF). If one wants to use a microphone that would object to having that voltage present on pin 1, a series DC blocking capacitor should be used.

My reasons to support those conclusions are the fact that Lyle said the K3 mic is wired just like it would be in the K2 with all jumpers wired straight across, coupled with the fact that the MH2 microphone is again being offered for use with the K2 and K3 - if it did not require the resistor, I would expect to see a change in the microphone numbering designation.

The wiring for the K2 MD-2, MH-2 microphones and the Heil headset has 5V applied to pin 1 through a 5.6k resistor.

Will the K3 be able to supply 5V on pin 1 through a 5k resistor via a jumper or some sort of configuration option? If not, I don't think the current Elecraft microphones will work properly.
