Build it small, build it tight.  I used a hydraulic press to make sure
the components were pushed down tight to the board before soldering

... well, maybe not :-) ...

But it does pay to keep things as small and tight as reasonably possible
so you'll have some space around the board.

Mine looked tight but things did fit around with no shorting issues.
