Hi Larry, My understanding from the KX3 is: 1. It should be able to handle CW duty cycle under typical circumstances without overheating. 2. If it does overheat, it is capable of self-preservation (foldback). 3. Additional heatsinking is necessary only to avoid foldback while operating digital modes like FT8 that transmit at 100% duty cycle for 30 seconds straight. 4. All that said, if you don't mind the weight and size penalty, I'd get one of them anyway, just for future flexibility.
