I just made a round-trip from Florida to Montana in the past two weeks, scanning the 2M and 70CM simplex channels and repeaters along the way. In 6 days on the road I heard exactly one conversation. And it was on 146.520 between two 18 wheeler hams on I-90 in South Dakota.
