It looks like the VFO tracking function for synchronous AM is not described in either the K3 Owner's manual or Cady's book. Or at least I couldn't find it when searching the PDF files for "track" and "spot".
For those wondering, there's a description about it in the firmware release notes (hfwnotes.rtf), look for the notes about "MCU 3.57 / DSP 2.45, 11-7-2009" in that file.
