Dave,

Yes there is an easy way, just turn the SHIFT knob to set the center 
frequency (while adjusting, it is displayed in the VFO B area) - the 
default is 1500 Hz.  The since you want to use a 1 kHz width, adjust the 
WIDTH knob until you see 1.00 in the VFO B display area.  If the SHIFT 
and WIDTH LEDs are not illuminated, tap one of the knobs to switch from 
the LO - CUT - HI selection.

If you use these adjustments frequently, they can be saved in one of the 
presets.
