Two bugs in just two sentences - I'm ashamed Should be: Incoming string is probably encoded in ANSI - your software think it is in UTF-8. E9 translated to bits is: 1110 1001. The three first bits indicate for the UTF-8 decoder that an UTF-8 coded character is in the next two and a half bytes.
