*Title:* Conservation Program Coordinator (1-year fixed-term)

*Location:* Land Use and Environmental Planning, Stanford University

*Position Eligible for Benefits*

*Description:*

The Conservation Program is responsible for the protection of biological
resources on Stanford University lands for their academic value and in
compliance with state and federal law. In accordance with these goals, the
Conservation Program implements Stanford’s Habitat Conservation Plan, drawn
up for the protection of California tiger salamander, California red-legged
frog, and an intergrade garter snake. Beyond the basic activities outlined
in the Habitat Conservation Plan, the Conservation Program pro-actively
manages for native biodiversity across taxa. The Conservation Program
completes plant community restoration, wildlife habitat enhancement, and
environmental outreach programs. In support of the Conservation Program’s
responsibility to support native biodiversity on Stanford’s lands, the
Conservation Program also works with faculty, staff, and students to
execute research and coursework within the field of applied ecology.

The Stanford Conservation Program’s research, monitoring, and management
activities are executed in the field by a dynamic team of undergraduate
students, recently graduated students, volunteers, and partnerships with
local non-profit environmental organizations. The environmental outreach
program is a growing component of the Stanford Conservation Program’s
mission. The burgeoning program currently consists of volunteer work days
linked to restoration projects and the Lagunita Naturalists Program.
Lagunita Naturalists use live organisms, plant samples, a spotting scope,
and guide books to introduce visitors to Lagunita’s rich natural history
and encourage our community to steward a unique natural asset. The
Conservation Program Coordinator will report to the Conservation Program
Manager and will be instrumental in helping to continue to build the
Stanford Conservation Program and its work at Stanford and in our
community.
