Salary Range:
$6,932 - $8,155 per month plus a comprehensive benefit package and retirement.

The Olympic Region Manager represents the Commissioner of Public Lands 
(Commissioner) and is responsible for field operations within the Department of 
Natural Resources' (DNR) Olympic Region (Clallam, Jefferson, and northern Grays 
Harbor counties).   Major responsibilities are revenue generation through the 
sustainable management of state trust lands, protection of public resources on 
private and state forest lands, and wildfire prevention and suppression. The 
position reports to the Department Supervisor and serves at the pleasure of the 
Commissioner.
Major responsibilities include but not limited to:

*Operate as chief representative of the Commissioner within the geographic 
boundaries of the region;
*Provide outstanding leadership for a region staff of 94 permanent employees 
including 3 assistant region managers;
*Establish and maintain excellent working relationships and communications with 
local governments, Indian Tribes, regional offices of other state agencies, 
landowners, and stakeholder groups;
*Oversee the management of 371,000 acres of state uplands;
*Sustainably manage state trust lands to generate income for public schools, 
universities, counties, and other trust beneficiaries, while accommodating 
compatible public uses;
*Implement two major resource protection programs--wildfire 
prevention/suppression and forest practices--on private and state forest lands 
within the region;
*Ensure proper utilization of a $24 million biennial budget;
*Ensure that the Commissioner and DNR's executive management team are promptly 
informed of emergent issues or events with potential to impact the agency or 
the region;
*Implement a pro-active safety program to improve employee safety awareness and 
reduce accidents and injuries; and
*Seek efficiencies and cost savings in all aspects of region operations.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

*A bachelor's degree and substantial management experience, at least some of 
which involves natural resources.
*Experience-based ability to provide strategic leadership and a 
results-oriented guidance for Olympic Region.
*Experience-based ability to create a positive working environment, build 
employee morale, and elicit sustained superior job performance.
*Excellent communications skills.
*Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and solve tough problems.
*Ability to calmly and professionally navigate difficult public policy issues 
and situations.
*Knowledge of land management principles and practices.
*Knowledge of wildfire prevention and suppression practices.
*Knowledge of Washington's Forest Practices Act and Rules.
*Experience developing and implementing large budgets.
*Working knowledge of labor agreements and personnel rules.
*Knowledge of the legislative process.
*Strong work ethic and commitment to public service.
