Dear Ecologgers, I have been going back and forth with possibilities for future careers and research research opportunities. I was hoping for advice when it comes to future endeavor endeavors. I am currently a junior biology student at Iowa State Universi University. My main interests involve conservation and invasive biology, as well as well as community ecology. I am very interested in working for Peace Corps someday someday as well as doing research around the world on conservation projects and stud and studying how invasive species impact different ecosystems. I have been consider considering many different paths that I could take post bachelor's degree as well as well as classes I should be taking during my time as undergraduate. I have sev have several questions,
1. I was wondering if it is important to try to have a minor such as in Spanis Spanish, or in another science field or if I should focus instead on taking as man as many advanced biology courses such as ornithology, mammology, herpet herpetology, community ecology etc. 2. I was wondering what the best path would be if I eventually wanted to work work on conservation projects around the world, should I try to go to vet scho school after my bachelors? Or graduate school for a masters and doctorates? Or i Or instead should I go into AmeriCorps and possibly Peace corps right after my b my bachelor's degree. Or some combination? 3. I am currently planning on having 1 year or inorganic chemistry, 1 year of of organic chemistry and 1 semester of biochemistry when I graduate next sp spring. With many different advanced biology courses, I will most likely al also take a GIS course with lab component, as well as I plan on taking a cl class over program R. I was wondering what other courses would be re recommended? 4. I was wondering what is the best way to obtain a summer research internship? I am very interested in trying to find a conservation or invasi invasive species based summer research internship. Thank you for your time in reading my post and I appreciate any advice you are are willing to send my way. Sincerely, Jake Melichar
