STREAM ECOLOGY

The Department of Biological Sciences at Virginia Tech invites applications 
for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of STREAM 
ECOLOGY starting in the Fall 2016 semester. We seek outstanding ecologists 
whose research will contribute to current strengths in stream ecosystems and 
freshwater biogeochemistry. Successful applicants will have the opportunity 
to share analytical laboratory facilities and to build collaborative 
research programs with current faculty members. Recent hires have 
contributed to Virginia Tech’s long-standing reputation as a center of 
excellence in aquatic ecology by developing strengths in limnology, the 
community ecology of freshwater ecosystems, microbial ecology, and 
terrestrial-aquatic interactions. The successful candidate will have the 
opportunity to train graduate students in Virginia Tech’s Interfaces of 
Global Change Interdisciplinary Graduate Education Program

•       Ph.D. degree in Biological Sciences or related discipline at the 
time of appointment
•       A competitive research program or, for new Ph.D.’s, strong promise 
for developing an active research program
It is desired that candidates have:
•       Post-doctoral or previous faculty experience
•       Demonstrated teaching effectiveness
•       A record of securing extramural funds to support research
•       An interest in developing interdisciplinary research collaborations
