The Minnesota Dept. of Natural Resources is hiring a seasonal intern to assist 
with a lowland 
conifer/forested peatland regeneration project within the Red Lake Wildlife 
Management area near 
Baudette, Minnesota.

The main duties are to assist with a plant regeneration research project in 
lowland conifer 
communities after disturbance from fire and harvest in a remote north central 
Minnesota setting. The 
work will involve both plant identification and collection in the field, plot 
set-up, and data entry in 
the office.  

Other assistance will be given to wildlife professionals in implementing 
natural resource 
management activities such as plant community classification, wildlife surveys, 
habitat maintenance 
and improvement projects, hunter facility work, GIS assistance, organization 
and summary work of 
timber sales, forest development projects, and prescribed burn units. 

The main qualifications are coursework and/or experience in plant 
identification, GIS, and computer 
data entry (Excel, ArcMap). 

Minimum Qualifications: 
In order to hold this position you must be receiving college credit and 
majoring in one of the 
following: Biology, Natural Resource Management, GIS degree program, or a 
related natural resource 
field of study at a 4-year college or university. 

Coursework in plant identification desirable, as well as outdoor knowledge, 
skills, and abilities 
including: 
1. Ability to walk up to ten miles daily carrying tools, supplies 
and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds total; 
2. Ability to work in adverse weather and environmental conditions 
including mosquitoes, ticks, heat, cold, precipitation, and uneven terrain; 
3. Ability to set up and maintain a camp at remote field locations if 
necessary; 
4. Knowledge of personal protective gear (tick gaitors, helmets, hearing and 
eye protection, etc); 
5. Knowledge to identify a large number of northern Minnesota vascular plants; 
6. Ability to use map, compass, GPS, and other navigational tools;
