Learn how human behavior can affect environmental change! Join the Duke
Environmental Leadership (DEL) program for the seven-week, distance-learning
course "Environmental Communication for Behavior Change" from Feb. 3 - March
21, 2014. The rapidly expanding field of environmental communication brings
together a set of behavior change tools that can help with environmental
enforcement, compliance with regulations, and desired changes in behavior.
This course is developed and led by Brian Day -- a globally recognized leader
in environmental education and social marketing. It addresses the practical
tools and strategies that environmental professionals can use to communicate
environmental concepts effectively and encourage behavior change. Environmental
professionals from all over the world interact via weekly discussions led by
our instructors. Assigned readings, papers, and discussion boards allow for
customized instructor feedback and peer review.
This course is also the foundation of DEL's suite of Environmental
Communication courses. We also offer synchronous, online skills courses in
social media (April 7 - May 16, 2014,and taught by the fabulous editorial team
at the Southern Fried Science blog), writing (June 2 - July 11, 2014), and a
project-oriented communications planning course (Fall 2014) all tailored
specifically to environmental professionals. Students will earn a Certificate
in Environmental Communication upon successful completion of all four courses.
All Environmental Communications courses can be taken for graduate credit;
CATES funding provides up to 50% tuition coverage for K-12 educators and
