Landowner Assistance Forester - Natural Resource Specialist 3

SALARY RANGE:  $3,549.00 - $4,653.00  per month plus comprehensive benefit 
package
               $42,588.00 - $55,836.00 annually

TYPE OF POSITION:       Project, Full-time. This position is expected to 
receive long-term continuous funding that is reallocated on a yearly basis.


LOCATION:                      Olympia, Washington

POSITION PROFILE:
This position performs the following professional forestry functions in 
Southwest Washington within Pacific Cascade Region, and southern portions of 
the Olympic and South Puget Sound Regions:
*            Provides professional expertise and technical assistance, 
including forest road assessments, to help non-industrial forest landowners 
develop and implement Forest Stewardship Plans (which meet USDA Forest Service 
national plan standards and Washington State Integrated Forest Management Plan 
guidelines). Provides technical review and approval of Forest Stewardship Plans 
prepared by others.
*            Responds to forest landowner information and assistance requests. 
Provides on-site professional forest management advice to support individual 
landowner objectives, including diagnosis and recommendations regarding forest 
health problems and fire risk assessments.
*            Partners with Washington State University Forestry Extension to 
develop and deliver educational programs and materials for non-industrial 
forest owners and other natural resource professionals.
*            Performs required program monitoring, evaluation, and reporting 
functions.
*            Coordinates and cooperates with other agencies and entities to 
support the operational execution of the Washington State Interagency 
Memorandum of Understanding Regarding Delivery of Services to Non-industrial 
Forest Landowners.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
*            Bachelor of Science in forestry or forestry experience equivalent 
to a Natural Resource Specialist 3 (senior program coordinator/specialist) or 
higher, and at least five years of operational field experience in forest 
management in the Pacific Northwest.
*            Excellent oral and written communication skills, including 
teaching or public presentation experience.
*            Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively with 
other agencies and organizations. Demonstrated ability to use basic forestry 
tools (measuring tools and hand tools).
*            Demonstrated ability to work independently with little supervision.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
*            Graduate degree in Forestry.
*            Certified Forester designation by the Society of American 
Foresters.
*            Demonstrated successful experience providing technical forestry 
assistance and educational programs to non-industrial landowners.
*            Previous experience working with small forest landowners.


SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
*            Ability to work on uneven terrain and in all weather conditions.
*            Frequent travel is required across a multi-county geographic area, 
including occasional overnight travel.
*            Frequent evening and weekend work is required.
*            Must have a valid driver's license and have two years of driving 
experience.
*            Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
