Dear Colleagues,

This is a reminder that the deadline to apply to be a speaker at this year's
Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) on Catchment Sciences (
http://www.grc.org/programs.aspx?year=2011&program=grs_catch) is this Friday
(APRIL 15th). The GRS is a two day workshop aimed at early career
investigators and leads up the the larger Gordon Research Conference (GRC).
This year's theme is *Sentinels of Global Change *with speakers addressing
whether watersheds (and their streams, lakes, and wetlands) are useful to
think about as "canaries in the coal mine" and what they can tell about the
changing world (http://www.grc.org/programs.aspx?year=2011&program=catchment).
This year's conference is taking place at Bates College, Maine from July
9-10 (GRS), July 10-15 (GRC).

Those who wish to attend the GRS and GRC have until June 12th to apply for
the conference, but given that space is limited we encourage people to apply
early. Further, for early career scientists, *this Friday*, is the deadline
to apply to be considered as one of 6-8 chosen speakers at the GRS. This is
a great opportunity for young scientists to interact with their peers
(during the GRS) as well as with leaders in the fields of hydrology and
biogeochemistry during the GRC (3 GRS presenters will be chosen by their
peers to give oral presentations at the GRC).

*Some GRS highlights:*
Keynote speaker: Jim Kirchner (Swiss Institute for Forest, Snow and
Landscape Research)
Discussion leaders: Bill McDowell (UNH), Sheri Clare (Alberta), Carrie
Masiello (Rice), Rolf Hut(Delft), and Eve Hinckley (CU-Boulder)
Career Panel: Beth Boyer (PSU), Bridgett Emmett (Centre for Ecology &
Hydrology), and Nigel Roulet (McGill)

*Gordon Research Conference Keynotes:*
Charles Driscoll (Syracuse), Kevin Bishop (Swedish University of Ag
Science), Nancy Grimm (Arizona State), Lawrence Band (UNC), Andras
Szollosi-Nagy (UNESCO)

Please feel free to email me with any questions.

Rebecca Barnes

*apologies for cross posting*
