The EPA is seeking undergraduate or graduate students for four full-time (40 hours per week) appointments in Corvallis, OR. The positions are temporary and may not exceed September 30, 2011. Start date is negotiable between late May and mid June. Salary range is determined by qualifications. No relocation expenses will be paid. To be eligible, applicants must be 18 years of age, must be a U.S. citizen, and must meet the basic eligibility requirements. Project Description: The Non-navigable Streams and Wetlands (NSW) Project at EPA’s Western Ecology Division in Corvallis, Oregon requires assistance to conduct field and laboratory research. Duties for NSW summer hire position may include: processing of biological samples in the laboratory; field collection of environmental data including stream flow, water chemistry, and stream characteristics, instrumentation and maintenance of field sensors, and collection of biological samples (fish and invertebrates); and other tasks including data entry and processing and general project support. The four positions include: • Stream biological and environmental sampling (2 positions, Joe Ebersole - [email protected]) • Stream nitrogen cycling (Jana Compton - [email protected]) • Sample processing and analysis for stable isotopes (J. Renée Brooks - [email protected]) Qualifications: Familiarity with basic computer software for data entry and editing, ability to conduct detailed laboratory weighing and sample processing, ability to hike over uneven terrain including through streams, and carry loads of up to 50 pounds. Basic Eligibility Qualifications for the Summer Temporary Employment Position: Must be a student in good academic standing and taking at least half of a full-time course load. A student is an individual who is enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited high school, college or university, or technical or vocational school. (Students graduating this May or June and who will NOT be enrolled in the fall are not eligible.) Must be a U.S. Citizen.
