General Description of the Job
Delaware State University’s College of Agriculture and Related Sciences
Dover, Delaware, seeks a self-motivated Post Doctoral Associate to assist
the college in designing and establishing a permanent spatial laboratory to
serve students, faculty, and staff, and to fulfill the role of the primary
geospatial analyst for the College.  The incumbent will be expected to
accommodate the geospatial demands of faculty, staff, and students that work
in various natural resource disciplines.  The incumbent will also work
cooperatively and independently on laboratory and field research projects
outlined by the USDA Grant Program funding this position.  The Post Doctoral
Associate will have the opportunity for independent research in the field of
spatial analysis and remote sensing of natural resources.  The Post Doctoral
Associate will be expected to work cooperatively with other environmental
and agricultural funded programs as needed.  The position also requires the
individual to design and teach both undergraduate and graduate spatial
analysis classes to students from multiple disciplines. This position is
funded for a minimum of 2 years and the second year of funding is contingent
upon a satisfactory job performance.

Essential Functions
The following are the functions essential to performing teaching, student, &
faculty training requirements of this job:

1.  Design and teach one of the following undergraduate courses each
semester for at least two years:  Introduction to GIS & Remote Sensing and
GIS Application to Agriculture.  Teach an existing graduate level GIS course

2.  Advise and assist the grant program’s Project Director and the College’s
IT personnel with the establishment of a Geospatial Laboratory for the
College

3.  Assist faculty, student, staff, and extension personnel in the
application of GIS & Remote Sensing

4.  Assist with student research training and communication

The following are the functions essential to performing research
requirements of this job:

1.  Conduct field-based forest survey research activities on reforested land
management relevant to the funded project.

2.  Assist students, faculty and staff of Agriculture and Natural Resources
Programs with applications of GIS & Remote Sensing in their research
activities

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1.  Prior teaching and research experience in academia.

2.  Proven ability to work successfully with diverse students and faculty.

3.  Must have effective networking, oral communication, and writing skills.

4.  Ability to work collaboratively with other faculty from diverse
institutions (e.g., academia, government, NGO environmental and conservation
groups).

5.  Proven spatial modeling and field work experience.

6.  Excellent knowledge of, and experience using, ArcGIS software including
programming.

7.  Demonstrated skills in GIS mapping, modeling, data collection, database
development and management, and GPS technology.

8.  Proven proficiency in applying and combining GPS and GIS applications in
natural resources management issues and/or modeling.

9.  Demonstrated experience with the production of high quality image output
for presentations, technical papers, and/or reports.

10.  Experience with digital cartography and LIDAR imaging data highly
desired.

11.  Proven ability in the technical skills required to establish a spatial
analysis laboratory for teaching and research.

12.  Self-motivated and a proven ability to work both independently and as a
team member.

Qualification Standards
1.  The successful candidate must have an earned Ph.D. from a fully
accredited institution of higher learning in Landscape Ecology, Geographic
Information Systems, Natural Resource Management, Geospatial Technologies,
Geography, and/or Remote Sensing.

2.  Candidates possessing a Ph.D. in Agriculture, Geology, Environmental
Science, Forestry, Natural Resources, Wildlife and Fisheries, or related
fields with significant demonstrable professional experience and technical
skills in GIS & Remote Sensing may also be considered.

Performance Standards
The criteria for evaluation include, but are not limited to, the following:
1.  Successful completion of the tasks listed as essential functions;
2.  Teaching evaluations.
3.  Progress reports and workshops.
4.  Potential grant writing and publication success.
