Steve Colabufo, Lead Hydrogeologist at the Suffolk County Water Authority on Long Island, NY asked sent me if I could find out about the environmental effects of elevated flouride levels due to flouridated drinking water released to the environment.

He wrote, "I am trying to see if any studies have been done on the ecological and environmental effects of flouride in groundwater. I have seen references to some studies done in areas where groundwater is naturally "high" in flouride. The difference for Long island is that groundwater basically has no flouride, and any elevated flouride would be introduced into the groundwater from the waste stream. Given that "excessive" levels of flouride have negative effects on human bones and teeth, I am sure that much lower levels will have similar negative effects on wildlife".

If you know of any studies done on the ecological effects of flouridated water released into the environment, please reply to me, or post your reply, and I will make sure he gets the information.
