I am looking for a motivated person to join me as a research/field assistant
in Chiapas, Mexico in 2010. I am a PhD student in ecology at Cornell
University. I am studying the community and ecosystem-level impacts of an
invasive fish in the streams and rivers of southern Mexico. The field sites
are located near the Mayan ruins of Palenque and the beautiful waterfalls of
Agua Azul and Misol Ha.

Requirements:
•An interest in field ecology and international work.
•The ability to conduct physically rigorous work and swim.
•Ability to spend the entire research period in Mexico.
•Two personal references that can discuss your work ability and
academic experience (I will contact these people via phone).
•CV and a copy of academic transcripts.
•International travel insurance (I also recommend several vaccinations).

Benefits for the Assistant:
•I will pay for room and board while you are with me in Mexico.
•I will pay for visits to Palenque National Park and the waterfalls of Misol
Ha and Aguas Azules.
•Prior to the field season, you are encouraged to apply for fellowship or
scholarship funding. I will aid in drafting and revising these documents.
•If you are interested, I will help you design and execute an independent
research project during your time in Mexico.
•I am willing to work in conjunction with academic institutions and advisors
to design semester abroad or academic credit if it is deemed appropriate.
