I am studying fungal community structure in decaying wood. In addition to mycelial culturing and isolation, I want to extract fungal DNA directly from pieces of wood. I am hoping to use a kit to keep things simple; however, my attempts using a plant kit were unsuccessful. Before I try a soil kit, I would like to hear from anyone who has experience doing this type of extraction: what did you try and how did it go? Any advice?
