Please join the Hemlock Restoration Initiative on an in-person Lingering
Hemlock identification workshop/hike on *April 10th, 2025 from 9am-12pm in
Mills River, NC*.

'Lingering Hemlocks' are live hemlocks that are dying more slowly than
those surrounding them and may hold some tolerance or resistance to the
hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA). We need to find these 'Lingering Hemlocks' so
that researchers can learn more about possible mechanisms of genetic
resistance that can be bolstered through selective hemlock breeding. We
need folks to be able to recognize a lingering hemlock and report it to the
correct people (namely, through the TreeSnap <https://treesnap.org/> app).

This event is a great opportunity to see in-person examples of both
lingering hemlock candidates and hemlocks that do not qualify as lingering.
We will discuss how to make a quality TreeSnap submission and the
environmental and ecological nuances that go into these decisions.

This is a project led by The Nature Conservancy called Tree Species in Peril
