Among the various scams targeting academics are "predatory conferences",
which target early-career researchers who might benefit from giving
invited talks at international conferences. I get about one or two
invitations per month for such conferences. There are a couple of

Researchers who have fallen prey to predatory conferences share the
tell-tale signs of a dud event.
