Description: The Department of Biological Sciences at Loyola University New Orleans, a primarily undergraduate institution, seeks highly qualified applicants for a Lab Coordinator position.
The Biology Lab Coordinator has a leadership role in coordinating and overseeing our two introductory labs for natural science majors (Cells & Heredity and Biology of Organisms) and helping to maintain spaces and equipment for other courses. This includes revising and updating laboratory teaching manuals; coordinating, preparing, and maintaining the core biology laboratories; training student assistants; developing a peer mentoring program; and teaching one section of C&H lab during each Fall semester and one section of Biology of Organisms lab during each Spring. Responsibilities include: Coordinate, prepare and maintain the core biology laboratories. Revise and update core laboratory teaching manuals as needed. Recruit student teaching assistants Train, and supervise student teaching assistants and new adjunct faculty teaching core labs for the first time. Develop a peer mentoring program. Teach one section of Cells & Heredity lab each Fall Teach one section of Biology or Organisms lab each Spring Collaborate with Office Manager to order supplies. Oversee maintenance of departmental teaching spaces and equipment. Assist with coordination of use and maintenance of department vehicles used for teaching. Collegially collaborate and coordinate with instructors of other biology lab courses given the shared nature of teaching spaces and equipment. Communicate regularly and effectively with faculty, staff, and students. Remain up-to-date with developments in teaching pedagogy. Attend departmental meetings and functions. Required Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities: BS, MS or PhD in Biology or related field. Basic computer skills – use of email, internet, software use including Canvas, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and digital imaging software Licensed driver; certified as van driver Basic familiarity with conventional laboratory equipment Ability to complete above duties with or without physical accommodations.
