Ph.D. position in quantitative modeling of bat habitat use at the University of
Georgia

Project: Multi-scale roost selection of bats in Georgia

Overview: We seek a Ph.D. student, beginning in August 2025, to study the
ecology of bats in the Southeast. This project aims to inform habitat needs for
bats in light of large-scale population declines over the last decade. The
student will use spatial and quantitative methods to analyze existing survey
data to understand bat roost site selection at multiple spatial scales.
Depending on student interest and experience, additional field data collection
may be possible, but this is primarily a quantitative position. The student
will join the Georgia Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research
Unit<https://www1.usgs.gov/coopunits/unit/Georgia> and will enroll as a student
at the Warnell School of Forestry & Natural Resources<https://warnell.uga.edu/>
at the University of Georgia. The position will be supported by a combination
of teaching and research assistantships. In addition to teaching and conducting
research, responsibilities include effectively collaborating with project
partners at the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and elsewhere,
presenting research results at scientific conferences, and publishing findings
in peer-reviewed journals. Other related duties may also be assigned as needs
arise (e.g., required training), and lab members are expected to help maintain
a supportive environment.

Qualifications: Required – M.S. in ecology, natural resources, statistics,
geography, or a related field.
Preferred – quantitative modeling experience, experience with spatial
analysis/GIS, interest/experience working with wildlife managers, experience
working with bats.

Salary: approximately $31,000 / year, plus tuition waiver.

To apply: Prior to applying to the Graduate School, qualified applicants should
send a single email containing: 1) cover letter describing background, skills,
and interest in this position, 2) a CV, 3) unofficial transcripts of
undergraduate and graduate work, and 4) contact information for 3 professional
references to Dr. Claire Teitelbaum
(cteitelb...@uga.edu<mailto:cteitelb...@uga.edu>). Open until filled, but
application review will begin March 20. Applicants will be informed before
references are contacted.
