The Slate Plant Ecology Lab <https://u.osu.edu/slateplantecology/> at The Ohio State University is hiring a full-time Research Senior Technician to manage laboratory-based research projects designed to improve the success of seed-based restoration strategies in the Intermountain West. The research requires fine attention to detail, ability to manage and coordinate many moving pieces, working and communicating in a group setting, problem solving, and daily measuring of seeds and seedlings. Lab work will involve microscopy, taking physiological measurements (e.g., photosynthetic capacity, water use efficiency), taking morphological measurements (e.g., root and leaf scanning), and computer work (e.g., data sheet preparation and data entry in Excel). Field and greenhouse research projects will also be initiated and completed alongside lab-work from time to time. Minimum Education Required Bachelor's Degree in biological or environmental sciences, ecology, or related field or equivalent experience. Required Qualifications 2 years of relevant experience required. All candidates should have a background or interest in plant ecology, be able to list 22.5 kg (50 lbs.), be capable of standing or sitting for long periods of time, as needed, to perform standard laboratory procedures. Desired Qualifications Four years relevant experience is preferred. Experience assisting with or leading laboratory or greenhouse-based research is preferred. This experience could include undergraduate technical work, MS thesis related research experience, or other related experiences. Ability to work independently with a LI-COR 6800 is required. Experience with microscopy, plant cultivation, and plant functional traits is preferred. Laboratory, field, and greenhouse work will require the use of programs such as Excel and R for data entry of findings, and plotting.
