Postdoctoral Scientist in Aquatic Food Web Ecology Job Type: Postdoc Annual Salary: $60,000 - $65,000 with health benefits Location: Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado Application Deadline: Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis but preference will be given to application received before February 17, 2025 Start Date: Preferred start date of May, 2025 Position Duration: The position is funded for one year with high potential for additional support pending availability of funding and satisfactory progress Project Information: The successful candidate will work on a collaborative project with Colorado State University, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, and the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District. The project focuses on the food web ecology of Grand Lake, Colorado. Grand Lake is a natural high-elevation lake that has been incorporated into the Colorado-Big Thompson Project (CBT), which diverts water from the Colorado River to the Front Range. The lake supports a recreational fishery for lake trout and is adjacent to Rocky Mountain National Park. Water clarity in Grand Lake has decreased since its inclusion in the CBT, with the introduction of nonnative Mysis shrimp around 1970 being a possible contributing factor. Mysis shrimp occur at high densities in Grand Lake and may consume native zooplankton, releasing phytoplankton from grazing pressure and decreasing water clarity. The project aims to characterize the role of Mysis shrimp in the Grand Lake food web using field surveys and stable isotope analyses of lake trout and other fish, zooplankton, and phytoplankton. Future goals pending availability of funding may include the use of experimental mesocosms to manipulate Mysis shrimp densities. The postdoc will help lead field data collection on the Grand Lake food web, coordinate the processing of field samples, organize and analyze data, and disseminate findings through written reports, publications, and oral presentations. Required Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in a relevant field such as Biology, Ecology, or Fish and Wildlife • Valid driver’s license Preferred Qualifications: • Field and laboratory research experience in limnology, fish ecology, food web ecology, water quality, bioenergetics modelling, and/or stable isotope ecology • Experience with data management, analysis, and visualization • Record of publication with demonstrated ability to complete projects • Strong writing and oral communication skills • Ability to work with a collaborative research team How to Apply: Application materials should be submitted at the following site: https://jobs.colostate.edu/postings/156997 Please upload: 1) a cover letter (<2 pages) addressing the above qualifications and including your timeline of availability, 2) a current C.V., and 3) contact information for three professional references.
