We are pleased to announce the upcoming Wildfire Risk Modeling with BurnP3+ Course<https://apexrms.com/course-burnp3-plus/>, taking place in-person at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, A.B., from April 28th to 30th, 2025. BurnP3+<https://burnp3.github.io/BurnP3Plus/> is the Canadian Forest Service’s latest generation of open-source software for forecasting wildfire risk across a landscape. Building upon the 20-year history of its predecessor, Burn-P3<https://firegrowthmodel.ca/pages/burnp3_overview_e.html>, the new BurnP3+ platform allows users to simulate wildfire ignitions, burning conditions, and fire growth using a choice of alternative fire growth models. Results are summarized across many individual fire simulations, allowing end users to compare wildfire risk across alternative “what-if” scenarios. Run collaboratively by scientists from the Canadian Forest Service’s Northern Forestry Centre<https://natural-resources.canada.ca/science-and-data/research-centres-and-labs/forestry-research-centres/northern-forestry-centre/13485> and ApexRMS<https://apexrms.com/>, this course offers a hands-on opportunity for participants to learn the fundamentals of developing and running spatially-explicit wildfire risk models using BurnP3+. Attendees will also have the opportunity to explore practical applications of BurnP3+, and to network with CFS wildfire scientists, the BurnP3+ model development team, and other industry peers. Key topics to be covered:
* Overview of wildfire burn probability modeling * Configuring model inputs to build wildfire risk models using BurnP3+ * Generating and comparing alternative wildfire risk scenarios in BurnP3+ * Scripting BurnP3+ modelling workflows using the R programming language * Visualizing and sharing model results by publishing BurnP3+ libraries to the web For additional details on the course, including registration information, please visit the Course Details<https://apexrms.com/course-burnp3-plus/> page. Discounted early-bird registration is available until February 28th. To unsubscribe from this list please go to https://community.esa.org/confirm/?u=RhPWqPxFwODKvbkiT32nkIqRrsiSgulp
