FULL-TIME PLANT AND ECOSYSTEM ECOLOGY RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

The Center for Ecosystem and Science and Society at Northern Arizona
University is searching for a Research Associate to work on Arctic and
boreal ecology in the field and lab. The Associate will become an integral
member of the Plant and Ecosystem Ecology Research (PEER) lab, an
inclusive, whimsical, productive, and enthusiastic group of faculty,
postdoctoral researchers, and graduate and undergraduate students led by
Regents Professor Michelle Mack and Assistant Professor Xanthe Walker. The
position will be primarily located in Flagstaff, AZ, with travel to
Fairbanks, AK, and other locations in the far north. Job tasks will include
management of multiple field projects in Alaska, maintenance of field and
lab safety protocols, laboratory analyses of plant and soil samples,
coordination and supervision of graduate and undergraduate students, and
planning and coordination of meetings with research collaborators.

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g.,
Biology, Ecology, Forestry, Geography, Soil Science) and four to six years
of research support experience, including work in field and/or lab, OR a
combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as
an equivalent to the above Minimum Requirements.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience designing, conducting, and supervising
field and lab work. Knowledge in statistical analyses of ecological data.
Ability to complete and oversee laboratory work related to processing soils
and plants for biogeochemical, isotopic, and molecular analyses. Experience
planning and coordinating interdisciplinary meetings.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Knowledge of principles and techniques of
plant and soil analyses in the field and lab. Knowledge of proper safety
and compliance practices related to the conduct of research. Technical
understanding and proficiency related to conducting relevant research
procedures. Balances competing priorities and ability to make decisions
regarding resource allocation. Organizes data and information and supports
analysis; may conduct independent analysis or review. Communicates
effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences. Promotes a
diverse, inclusive, and safe environment.

Salary: Range is $58-73k per year and commensurate with candidate's
qualifications and experience.
