Same problem for me. Lock screen works fine, but if I try to unlock after few minutes, I got the password prompt again. I got access to my Ubuntu laptop (14.10) only forcing a power cycle, pressing the power button for 5 seconds.
Local user for me as well and it's probably hard to troubleshoot seen I cannot do anything but trying login. FYI: If I put the wrong password, it recognizes the password is wrong.
