It looks like Tonny got the source of this issue. I got this error after
installing netbeans with tomcat.
To fix it, i added this line to the .bashrc of the dspace user:
export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-sun-6
Btw, this only occured over xmlui.
System:
Ubuntu 9.10 - 32 bit
DSpace 1.5.2 (Source Release)
JRE: Sun 1.6.0_16
Apache Tomcat/6.0.24
