Hello DSpace Community,

The University of Virginia Library has decided to move from our very old 
(mostly customized) IR to a locally hosted instance of DSpace (DSpace 8).

Since we (I) am totally new to DSpace and configurations, I was wondering 
if there are any guides (videos) on getting started (for V7x or V8x)? I 
have looked over (and over) the DSpace8.x wiki, but find it more for those 
who understand the workings of DSpace - the parts and how they fit, more 
for those already familiar with DSpace. I've also watched a few DSpace 
videos (tutorials), but again need more details on how things work together.

Is there anything for total newbies? I'm pretty technical; I am the 
administrator of our locally hosted Dataverse Repository (setting up user 
accounts, setting up configurations, working with APIs, setting up 
harvesting, etc.).  

I just need to know more than the basics (what the intro tutorials show) to 
get me started.

For example, why can't an ePerson who is in the "Administrator" group (who 
can see the DSpace Management side-bar), not see any results in the 
"Administrative Search". A non-admin user has created two draft items that 
I assumed an admin should see? But I see no items under Administrative 
Search (not even the one draft item I created).

Is this the best place for questions like this or is the DSpace slack space 
better, which channel?
