I don't see how this could happen by looking at the code. I also can't reproduce this myself. Can you easily reproduce this? Could you run imap-login via valgrind (it slows things down): service imap-login { executable = /usr/bin/valgrind -q --vgdb=no /usr/local/libexec/dovecot/imap-login } (you may not have/need --vgdb=no, depends on your valgrind version)
